I am an artist based in North London, making limited-edition screen prints and woodcuts. If you would like to know more about my work, please get in touch.
"...these elements - squares, circles, triangles, contrasts, harmonies etc. - could express something when they were released from the burden of having to serve as agents of other meanings." Bridget Riley
In my screen prints the image is constructed using the building blocks of colour, shape, rhythm and pattern. Screen printing is a good medium for this.
But pure abstraction free of other meanings is just an ideal. In practice you can rarely escape cultural associations, the natural desire of the human eye to find recognisable objects within an image and meaning in the process of making itself.
So I see these prints as impure abstractions, pushed and pulled by memories, sometimes analogous to natural processes and open to associations with buildings or animals or furniture or journeys or music. Rooted in the physical realities of the world, even as they strive to achieve new alignments.

As well as screen prints, I also hand print woodcuts in the studio. I use them for both abstract and “text and image” compositions. The added element is texture - I like to use weathered wood, often recovered from skips. The history of the wood is partially revealed by the printing process - grain and surface damage. I particularly like using recovered cable drums discarded by builders.

I like to use text in some of my screen prints.
Inspiration comes from numerous sources - horoscopes and spam e-mail, music or poetry, the work of other artists or a journey to another country.
